What makes a laptop a home laptop?

Nothing. Home laptops range from the entry-level Lenovo IdeaPad 1 up to the high-end Dell Precision 17. So, all laptops are 'home laptops’. Though - a laptop without a graphics card wouldn't be a ‘gaming laptop’ for example. This range is the largest in both size and scope, so there’s bound to be an everyday laptop for you!

How to narrow down the choice

While there’s almost too much choice, this is a good thing as there’s bound to be something that suits you. First, you’ll need to consider your budget and what screen size you’re looking for – this will thin the crowd. You can use the category filters to reduce your selection until you have a handful left. From then on, it’ll be personal to you! Read on to find out a bit more about some of the ranges we stock…

IdeaPad – Ideal laptop?

Lenovo’s IdeaPad range is our most popular series of home laptops. They come in a range of options to suit all budgets. You can see more information on these below. The IdeaPad is the definition of an everyday or home laptop.

HP, Acer, ASUS and all the rest…

While Lenovo is the most popular brand we sell, we also stock others. We have laptops from all the major brands - such as HP, Acer and ASUS. To see what we have in these ranges, you can use our product category filters, or click the buttons below:

Chromebooks are laptops too!

Windows might be the what you’re familiar with, but it’s not the only player in the game. Google’s Chrome OS, as used on a special type of laptop called Chromebooks, is gaining momentum. A Chromebook is a great choice for a home laptop – especially if you’ll mostly be using it for web browsing.

Chromebooks come in all shapes and sizes - click the button to see what we have to offer.

What if I work from home?

Do you need a home or a business laptop if you’re working from home? If your work means that downtime isn't acceptable, you might want ‘on-site’ warranty. If your work has specific security needs, then you might want a Windows Pro business laptop. For most situations though, any of the home laptops would work very well indeed.

What features can I expect?

As the ‘home laptop’ or ‘everyday laptop’ category is so broad, you can expect whatever feature you need! You can get small screens, big screens, touchscreens, fast storage, large storage and so on. Any everyday laptop will browse the internet and do word processing – the basic daily tasks that we do.

Personal or family use

Home/everyday laptops are often for personal use but are great for family and kids to use too. When you're considering what specifications you need, consider who'll be using the laptop. Almost any laptop in this range will handle a few users without any issue. For schoolwork, entertainment, a home office or even gaming – there’s a home/everyday laptop for the job.

Our recommendations

Entry-level

We’d suggest that you either consider a Windows laptop with a minimum of 128GB storage, or maybe consider a Chromebook. Windows tends to be less forgiving of low specifications than Chrome OS (the system used by Chromebooks). Despite the lack of power, you can get a usable machine these days for not much money.

Mid-range

We’d recommend an Intel Core i5 processor or AMD Ryzen 5, with at least 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. This will give you the performance you need for more serious work and mixed entertainment. Chromebooks are an option at this level, with similar specified options being available.

High-end

This is where you get the slimmest, but most powerful designs. The high-end models are capable of critical work, creative pursuits, and perhaps a bit of gaming. You’ll want at least an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 and 16GB of RAM. You should also see 512GB SSD storage as a starting point. There aren't many Chrome OS laptops in this range. This is because Chrome OS doesn’t need (and can’t make use of) the power on offer.
